Joey Garlic’s is everything you want from a neighborhood restaurant – great bar atmosphere, delicious food, and huge portions. This place is one of my favorite places to go to when I’m visiting family in Connecticut. In fact, I was just there this past weekend! We often find ourselves coming back here because of the delicious food and awesome staff. As of this writing, Joey’s has two different locations, one in Farmington and one in Newington, CT. This is my review of the Joey Garlic’s in Farmington.

When you go to this restaurant, I always recommend going to the back bar area. This is the most laid back area, even though it’s smaller than the main dining room. The bartenders and servers back there are really great and provide quick service. But let’s talk about the food.

When you come here, you need to order the eggplant fries. I’m sure this has to be one of their more popular dishes. We ordered a small and it’s plenty to feed the table and keep us wanting more. I’m not a huge eggplant person, but these eggplant fries are delicious. They’re crispy and covered with parmesan cheese. The sauce is absolute perfection as well. Simple, but amazing.

For our second course, we decided to get the Sicilian Orange Salad without the olives. It is so yummy and light, tossed in a balsamic vinaigrette and served over freshly baked flatbread. The flatbread has some spices on it and is tasty on its own. Although, if you have leftovers like we did, a pro-tip is to box up the salad and the flatbread separately. This way the flatbread won’t get soggy.

Last but not least, we decided to order a pizza. When it was brought out to us, a smile appeared on our faces. It just smelled absolutely incredible. All of the options they have on the menu are delicious. There are so many, you really can’t go wrong with any of them. This time we decided to go with just pepperoni and sausage. The pepperoni is small and crisp, just the way I like it, but what really makes Joey’s so delicious is the crust. What I love about it is that it holds up. Sometimes with thin crust, you need to fold it in half like a sandwich in order to eat it. At Joey’s, you don’t have that problem. The pizza here is the reason to come. We always order a large to ensure that we have leftovers the next day.

I will always recommend coming to Joey’s. It’s a great family restaurant with huge portions, a great atmosphere, and friendly staff.
